Location We'll be announcing our location! The Presbytery of Barrie meets Tuesday night at Trinity and should indicate whether or not it will recommend acceptance of Connexus' offer to purchase the current Trinity facility. Watch this blog late Tuesday night for an update. Either way, we're good to go and ready to launch either in Oro or in Barrie and Orillia in December
Dear Blog: It is my understanding that this issue is not the one that was deferred by Presbytery last month and therefore is not what will be discussed by the Barrie Presbytery Tuesday night. The issue is whether or not to dissolve the congregation. The purchase is a matter for the national church to decide.
Rob. Thanks for the note. Technically, you are correct, but in a few respects it's a little more interwoven than that.
Over two months ago, the Presbytery executive team special committee and the national church received a written offer to purchase Trinity. The executive team asked the Trinity congregation to vote on whether to dissolve Trinity, which we did back in August (97.6% in favour). At the Presbytery meeting in September, Patrick Voo and I moved the dissolution of Trinity which was, as you correctly pointed out, deferred by the Presbytery. However, if and when the motion to dissolve Trinity is passed, it would be entirely in order for the Presbytery to bring forward our offer to purchase Trinity that night, as it has been official Presbytery correspondence for several months and both the national church and presbytery have had time to review it. We even had an appraisal done at the denomination's request.
Naturally, what the Presbytery does with it is truly up to them. We will see an indication of that tomorrow night.
Ironically, I was reading my Presbytery minutes this afternoon, and last month after the decision to defer Trinity's request to dissolve Trinity, the Presbytery decided in a single meeting to amalgamate two other churches, approve their assets for sale and approach the national church to use the assets locally. All in one meeting. So I think that puts to bed the notion once and for all that our time line was undoable.
I'm still waiting . . . I wasn't able to attend tonight's meeting at Trinity and had hoped to see the update Carey promised . . . but, alas, nothing and it's past midnight. I hope, in the end, Jesus won out and the Kingdom is furthered for His Glory!
I completed the survey and said that I liked the blocks logo, I personally found it more inviting. However, Connexus is not trying to attract me, they are hoping to attract people who don't go to church. So I went around my office and asked my co-workers what they thought.
All six felt like the X logo was more fresh, relevant, and cutting edge. Someone mentioned that the X was appealing to the GenX generation. Another girl said that it looked like the X was xing out something and that appealed to her. Most of these people are people who don't go to church, who will be the people we are trying to reach as the multi-site vision develops.
I also asked my eleven year old daughter last night and she likes the X logo.
Thanks for the opportunity to provide the input and for all the info that you have given.
